Abstract
Molecular modeling calculations support assignment of the circular dichrois m (CD) of unsubstituted saccharides and polysaccharides to oxygen-centered transitions of the acetal chromophore. The results are in agreement with an empirical CD-based assignment, which treated the acetal chromophore as two weakly coupled ether chromophores. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All righ ts reserved.
