Abstract
DSA type electrodes (IrOx/Ti) were prepared by induction heating technique which allows a rapid decomposition of the precursor under anaerobic conditi ons. With this type of electrode, an activation process is observed in cycl ic voltammetry which can be related to the presence of metallic Ir within t he coatings. The electro-oxidation of alcohols in acid medium was investiga ted by cyclic voltammetry. In the presence of alcohols, a large current enh ancement was observed at E greater than or equal to 1.3 V/NHE. This great r eactivity can be due to high iridium oxidation states, Ir(V) and Ir(VI), pr esent in the oxide layer in this potential range. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
