A. Gamboa-dominguez et A. Tenorio-villalvazo, Metastatic follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma manifested asa primary renal neoplasm, ENDOCR PATH, 10(3), 1999, pp. 265-268
Although autopsies performed on patients with cancer have shown 4.6 to 7.6%
of metastases to the kidneys, the preoperative clinical identification rem
ains rare. The primary sources of metastases to the kidney are in decreasin
g order of frequency: breast, lung, intestine, contralateral kidney, stomac
h, ovary, cervix, pancreas, uterus, and prostate. As far as we know, only s
even cases of malignant neoplasms of the thyroid gland metastatic to the ki
dney have been reported [1]. Herein, we report the eighth case of this even
t and the second of a follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma who
se initial manifestation was hematuria and flank pain.
