This study presents a reliability analysis method for sediment control
steel dams under rock impact loading. Because of the ability to devel
op significant postelastic deformations prior to failure, sediment con
trol steel dams are analyzed by the incremental elastoplastic approach
. The proposed method takes into account the axial-bending-torsional i
nteraction as well as all uncertainties associated with the loading, i
ncluding impact location, impact angle, rock mass, and rock velocity.
Limit states consist of both excessive elastoplastic displacements and
excessive plastic deformations. A three-dimensional steel framework u
nder random rock impact loading is used to illustrate the proposed rel
iability analysis method.
