J. Jiskra et al., Chromatographic properties of reversed-phase stationary phases under pressure- and electro-driven conditions, J CHROMAT A, 862(2), 1999, pp. 121-135
Seven different reversed-phase (RP) stationary phases were examined under h
igh-performance liquid chromatographic (pressure-driven, HPLC), and capilla
ry electrochromatographic (electro-driven, CEC) conditions. Characterizatio
n of the stationary phases was performed following well-established test pr
ocedures providing a number of distinct column descriptors: hydrophobicity,
hydrophobic selectivity and silanol activity. These parameters were used t
o describe the behavior of the RP-columns under both HPLC and CEC condition
s. It is shown that chromatographic characteristics of porous RP-phases gre
atly depend on the mode of operation. By contrast, column descriptors of a
non-porous viz. solid RP-phase material hardly differed for HPLC and CEC co
nditions. (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
