Abstract
Methanol extract of Punica granatum seed was evaluated for antidiarrhoeal a ctivity against different experimental models of diarrhoea in rats. P. gran atum seed extract treated animals showed significant inhibitory activity ag ainst castrol-oil induced diarrhoea and PGE(2) induced enteropooling in rat s. The extract also showed a significant reduction in gastro-intestinal mot ility in charcoal meal test in rats. The results obtained established the e fficacy of P. granatum seed extract as an antidiarrhoeal agent. (C) 1999 El sevier Science Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
