Abstract
Ophidion saldanhai sp. nov, is characterized by the following combination o f characters: four gill rakers on the lower limb of the first gill arch; 17 pectoral rays; rostral spine strong, triangular in section and with dorsal ridge; predorsal region naked; posterior part of the orobranchial chamber, gill arches and gill rakers blackish; foregut and stomach black, hindgut p ale.
