We report the morphology and treatment of 2 cases of a triplane intra-artic
ular bicondylar fracture of the head of the proximal phalanx. Fracture line
s in the coronal, sagittal, and transverse planes characterize this fractur
e, making it highly unstable. Open reduction and internal fixation using tw
o 1.5-mm interfragmentary screws oriented in a dorsal to volar direction re
sulted in anatomic restoration of the articular surfaces and satisfactory f
unctional results. In 1 case, autogenous cancellous bone graft was harveste
d from the ipsilateral radial styloid to support the articular fragments. (
