Thin Cu-C-60 films were prepared by vacuum co-deposition and investigated b
y Raman spectroscopy. Evidence was found for alteration of the intramolecul
ar vibrational modes of C-60 due to the presence of Cu and also for activat
ion of silent modes. The effects were attributed to the interaction at the
interface between the metal and fullerene and to the related formation of i
nterstitial metallic ions. This hypothesis is supported by structural evide
