S. Pedersen et R. Stockdale, What do the readers think? A look at how scientific journal users see the electronic environment, J SCHOLAR P, 31(1), 1999, pp. 42-52
A study was conducted to assess how the average scientific journal reader,
with little or no knowledge of electronic journal projects, viewed the elec
tronic environment; and to gather information about these renders' reaction
s to the new environment The study looked at patterns of journal rise and e
xamined whether the facilities that electronic journals offered were satisf
ying:ng to the journal reader. It appears that more than a third of the sur
veyed scientific journal users do not read electronic journals, although a
reasonable percentage of readers access more than five electronic journals
on a regular basis. There is a broad consensus among the renders on the imp
ortance of the various facilities offered by publishers; readers' rating of
importance is directly related to quick and easy access to a wide range of
relevant, useful information.
