Abstract
The equilibrium configurations and positions of coaxial prismatic disl ocation loops are derived using a new algorithm based on minimizing sy stem configurational energy. Solutions in an explicit form are derived for two limiting cases, and the corresponding validity conditions pre sented. A natural material length scale is found which sets the scare for size-dependent plasticity phenomena. A size-sensitivity diagram is derived from the analysis which serves as a guideline in the study of size-dependent plasticity. (C) 1997 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
