Densitometric determination of loratadine in pharmaceutical preparations, and validation of the method

A simple and rapid densitometric method has been developed for determinatio n of loratadine in pharmaceutical preparations. After dilution of syrups, o r extraction of the analyte from tablets with 96% ethanol, samples were spo tted on precoated silica gel plates which were then developed with chlorofo rm-ethyl acetate-acetone, 5 + 7 + 7 (v/v). Quantitative evaluation was perf ormed by measuring the absorbance reflectance of the analyte spots at lambd a = 250 nm, The densitometric method is selective, precise, and accurate an d can be used for routine analysis of syrup and tablet preparations in phar maceutical industry quality-control laboratories.
