Results of treatment of 76 patients with progressive effort angina were ana
lyzed retrospectively Duration of hospitalization, time needed for stabiliz
ation of angina, functional class of angina after stabilization, doses of n
itrates, and concomitant antianginal therapy were compared in groups of pat
ients who received isosorbide-5-mononitrate (n=31) and isosorbide dinitrate
(n=45). Time needed for stabilization and functional class of angina after
stabilization were similar in both groups while mononitrate treated patien
ts had shorter hospital stay (-2 days). Ratios of average daily and total d
oses of isosorbide-5-mononitrate and isosorbide dinitrate were 1:1,26 and 1
:1,81, respectively. Dinitrate treated patients received 1,5 times more oft
en additional beta-blockers and calcium antagonists.
