Most of the large pumps or compressors in a plant are usually supported by
some auxiliary system, i. e. oil circuit, process water circuit or any othe
r systems to remove heat produced in the bearings, seals and by motor energ
y losses. In the present paper the effect of transients or failures in the
auxiliary systems of the main coolant pumps and feed water pumps of a Nucle
ar Power Plant is dicussed. Furthermore a simple non intrusive technique fo
r temperature measurements in an oil process water pipes is described. Conc
lusions obtained to evaluate and improve safety and rieliability of these e
quipments could be generalized to most of large pumps or compressors used i
n power generation or process industry.
