Abstract
A large sample of Israelis is used to estimate models for the demand f or government-sponsored training by the unemployed. The paper focuses on three decision variables: (i) whether to train or not; (ii) the tim ing of training; and (iii) the duration of training. The covariates of these decisions turn out to vary. However, on the whole the results a re consistent with human capital theory.
