Abstract
[GRAPHICS] Cyanuric acid is unique among organic molecules in being resistant to photo catalytic degradative conditions by TiO2 in oxygenated water. Trimethyl cya nurate shows an isotope effect of 3.1-3.3 on degradation selectivity when t he methyl groups are deuterated, and cyanuric acid enriched in O-18 does no t exchange hydroxyl groups with bulk water under these conditions. Thus, th e tolerance of cyanuric acid to photocatalysis is not due to rapid and reve rsible addition to the aromatic nucleus.
