Glycosyl transfer to nitrogen via cycloaddition

[GRAPHICS] This letter describes the reduction to practice of a novel concept for func tionalization of the anomeric carbon of carbohydrates with a nitrogen subst ituent. Thus, bisheterodienes with a thiono sulfur terminus and a sulfonyli mine terminus are shown to undergo cycloaddition smoothly and stereoselecti vely to three different glycals.
