The changing demands of the consumer over the last 50 years ave reviewed. T he resultant changes in packaging required to meet these demands are consid ered particularly for fast-food outlets, 'smart shopping' where food is ord ered and delivered direct to the home and other types of electronic shoppin g The changes needed in packaging materials and processes and in transport packaging are assessed.
