Bg. Ahn et al., Filtrating characteristics of polymeric porous composites composed of polypropylene and polyethylene, POLYM J, 31(10), 1999, pp. 851-856
Polymeric porous composites consisting of polypropylene (PP) and polyethyle
ne (PE) powder were prepared by continuous extrusion sintering method for u
se in air purification systems. SEM analysis showed that a composite polyme
ric porous structure made up of PP and PE was obtained. The morphologies co
nsisted of PE melted and adhering to PP domains due to the lower melting te
mperature of PE than that of PP. The filtrating characteristics and mechani
cal properties of polymeric porous composite materials were investigated wi
th variation in head die temperature of extruder, extrusion velocity, and t
he content and melt index of PE. The filtration efficiency increased with P
E. However it increased by increasing the melt index of PE. The developed p
olymeric porous composites composed of PP and PE was suitable as the filter
ing element of air purification systems.
