The bioactive metabolites of some Allium plants, all exhibiting interesting
pharmacological activities, were tested for their attractive/repellent act
ivity against saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), ric
e weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), and rust-red flour beetle, Tribolium cast
aneum (Herbst), insects infesting the stored-products.
The data obtained showed significant repellent effect of the thiosulfinates
against S. oryzae.
