The sulphoquinovosyldiacylglycerol (sulpholipid) zone obtained by TLC of pe
a chloroplast lipids yields, on hydrolysis, not only sulphoquinovose but al
so galactose and glucose. Following incorporation from UDP-[C-14]glucose, t
he percentages of the total radioactivity in these three sugars were typica
lly 1, 5 and 85%, respectively. The occurrence of the glucolipid causes dif
ficulties in elucidating further the biosynthetic pathway for sulphoquinovo
se.
