Synthesis of thin films of hydrogenated amorphous carbon has been obtained
by using laser excitation of stimulated Brillouin and Raman scatterings in
liquid benzene. As a matter of fact, above a threshold of the laser intensi
ty, it is suggested that a strong shock-wave is generated in the liquid, wh
ich is decomposed owing to the induced high dynamic pressure and temperatur
e; at the same time, a film of hydrogenated amorphous carbon is deposited o
nto the entrance window of the laser beam. (C) 1999 Academie des sciences/E
