GYMNOCEPHALUS BALONI, A NEW FISH SPECIES IN THE CZECH-REPUBLIC

The spreading of Balon's ruffe (Gymnocephalus baloni Holcik et Hensel, 1974), a rare fish species (Lelek 1987), has been recorded in the Riv er Morava (Danube basin). In the summer of 1995, one male of G. baloni was caught at river km 33 and by 1996, three more specimens had been recorded between river km 56 and 62 in the Slovak stretch of the river . In August 1996 two specimens were registered below the first small w eir (river km 74) of the River Morava in the Czech Republic and were t aken for detailed examination and documentation.
