FIR spectroscopy measurements on La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 (LSCO) samples indic
ate phonon renormalization at temperatures well above the superconduct
ing transition temperature T(c). These are in good correlation with sp
in-lattice relaxation time measurements of LSCO, and in accord with ot
her high-T(c) compounds. The possibility of a (pseudo) spin gap and of
the existence of bipolarons are discussed.
