Abstract
The birefringence introduced in the surface mounting of optical fibres using two different types of glue was measured by a polarimetric setu p. A thin layer of cyanoacrylate glue led to a birefringence of 3.6 x 10(-5), with axes normal and parallel to the surface. A thicker layer of epoxy introduced no measurable birefringence.
