A ferroelectric phase transition is observed in Langmuir-Blodgett films pre
pared from substituted copper phthalocyanine molecules. The linear and nonl
inear dielectric properties of the films and the switching of their spontan
eous polarization are investigated in the temperature range of the phase tr
ansition. The observed features can be explained by the Landau-Ginzburg mod
el of a first-order phase transition. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physic
