Abstract
The influence of UV-laser irradiation on the mechanical resistance of a highly GeO2-doped optical fibre has been investigated under the cond itions of Bragg grating fabrication. A Weibull plot evaluation indicat es a decrease in the median breaking stress by a factor of 2 and a dec rease in the m-value by two orders of magnitude.
