The title compound was obtained by a template synthesis from 2,6-diacetylpy
ridine, ethylhydrazinoacetate and CuCl2 . 2H(2)O (molar ratio 1 : 2 : 1, in
methanol), and its structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray d
iffraction: monoclinic space group P2(1)/c, a = 13.906(5), b = 18.199(6), c
= 16.641(6) Angstrom, beta = 107.18(3)degrees and z = 4. The ligand was fo
und to be tridentate in a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry with t
wo chloride ligands. There are two independent complex molecules, one of wh
ich is hydrogen bonded to the water of crystallization.
