The cobalt cluster PhCCo3(CO)(9) reacts with the bis(phosphanyl)hydrazine l
igand bis(diphenylphosphino)dimethylhydrazine (dppdmh) in CH2Cl2 with added
Me3NO to give the monosubstituted cluster PhCCo3(CO)(8)[Ph2PP(O)PPh2] as t
he major isolable product. The solid-state structure of this new cluster wa
s unequivocally established by X-ray diffraction analysis, which has confir
med the presence of a noncoordinated (O)PPh2 moiety. PhCCo3 (CO)(8)[Ph2PP(O
)Ph-2] crystallizes in the triclinic space group <P(1)over bar>, a = 12.036
(2), b = 12.037(2), c = 15.124(3) Angstrom, alpha = 84.82(1)degrees, beta =
89.44(2)degrees, gamma = 60.09(1)degrees, V = 1890.0(6) Angstrom(3), Z = 2
, and d(calc) = 1.540 g/cm(3).
