A simple, rapid and reliable reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromat
ographic method for the separation and determination of sanguinarine in arg
emone and other edible oils has been developed. The separation has been ach
ieved on a C-18 column with CH3OH-CH3CN-tetrahydrofuran-water as mobile pha
se using diode array detection at 280 nm. The minimum detection limit of sa
nguinarine in the adulterated edible oils is 5 mu g/g. (C) 1999 Elsevier Sc
