An approach to determination of properties of a rock mass with a layered st
ructure by acoustic sounding is proposed on the basis of solution of invers
e problems of seismic probing. Methods for selecting the initial approximat
ion ensuring convergence of iterative processes are indicated. The optimal
parameters of the input signals and the duration of the output signal are f
ound. It is shown that interlayer joints may serve as an indicator of the v
ariation of external stress field in the mass.
