Abstract
The results of experimental investigations of the thermal blooming of repet itively-pulsed CO2-laser radiation with up to 35 kW average power on natura l (2.81 km long) and model laboratory (185 m long) atmospheric paths are re ported. The laboratory measurements demonstrated the presence of substantia l light-induced aberrations in the CO2-laser beam propagation channel. On a path in the surface layer of the atmosphere, atmospheric turbulence decrea sed the thermal blooming. (C) 1999 The Optical Society of America. [S1070-9 762(99)00311-5].
