An intensive investigation of the reaction of hexamethylenetetramine with d
ibenzoylmethane under varying conditions in methanol, ethanol and their mix
tures with water, and also in water alone has been carried out The effect o
f sonication an these reactions has also been studied The study has led to
the development of a simple method for the synthesis of alpha, alpha, gamma,g
amma-tetrabenzoylpropane in the theoretical yield, hitherto, not reported i
n the literature. Methylene-bis-dibenzoylmethane thus obtained turned out t
o be tautomeric in nature. It has not been reported in the literature so fa
r. Its tautomeric nature has been established and is being reported for the
first time.
