Abstract
Generating a realistic wind field is a crucial element of air pollution mod elling in complex terrain such as that of Hong Kong. A sophisticated non-hy drostatic Canadian mesoscale meteorological model (MC2) has been applied fo r this purpose. This paper gives a short description of the model and descr ibes its adaptation to Hong Kong conditions: setting up the nested grids, p rocessing the geophysical and meteorological input data, etc. Results of ea rly model simulations are presented and briefly discussed. The model is pro ved to be capable of predicting high-resolution, three-dimensional fields o f wind and other meteorological parameters, using reasonable computer time and memory resources.
