This paper introduces the Building Standard Law of Japan and the BCJ Recomm
endations for Structural Safety for Wind. Both are official documents publi
shed by the government or its agency. It then introduces the AIJ Recommenda
tions for Loads on Buildings and AIJ Guidelines for the Evaluation of Habit
ability to Building Vibration. These two documents are not official ones, a
nd designers are not bound by them. Finally, the BCJ Guidebook on Wind Tunn
el Experiments for Building Engineers is introduced as a manual relevant to
wind-resistant design of buildings. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rig
