Abstract
In situ atomic force microscopy has been conducted of the buckling of vacuu m deposited thin 304 stainless steel films on polycarbonate substrates. The first stage of this deformation process has been observed and is related t o a critical applied compressive stress of approximately 2 GPa. The debondi ng propagation occurs with the increased compressive stress in a direction perpendicular to the additional uni-axial stress. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
