Abstract
Ni:LiNbO3 directional couples with two types of waveguide structures were f abricated successfully for the first time, and the switching characteristic s were also demonstrated at a wavelength of 1.3 mu m. From the experimental results, the switching voltage of the combinational-type device can be red uced from 80 to 48 V in comparison to the buried-in waveguide structure, cr eating an improvement of 40%.
