Abstract
The attenuation field of a lossy wedge with less than 180 degrees wedge ang les is derived from the Fresnel-Kirchhoff theory, and the numerical results are compared with those from the heuristic lossy-wedge diffraction coeffic ient given by Luebbers (1984), which has different bases in theory. The goo d agreement shows that the lossy-wedge diffraction coefficient as an extens ion of the UTD is quite reasonable. (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
