Lm. Langer et Jg. Tubman, RISKY SEXUAL-BEHAVIOR AMONG SUBSTANCE-ABUSING ADOLESCENTS - PSYCHOSOCIAL AND CONTEXTUAL FACTORS, American journal of orthopsychiatry, 67(2), 1997, pp. 315-322
Of 120 substance-abusing adolescents and young adults undergoing treat
ment, the majority reported engaging in several types of risky sexual
behavior, both with and without concurrent substance use. Data analysi
s revealed that AIDS knowledge, decision-making style, drinking motive
s, and perceived vulnerability to HIV were significant predictors of s
uch behavior. Findings are discussed with a view to enhancing preventi
on efforts among high-risk adolescents.
