Oxidation of [Ru(eta(5)-C5H5)(eta(5)-C5H3OH-2-PPh3)]CF3SO3 (1a) and [Ru(eta
(5)-C5H4PPh3)(eta(5)-C5H4OH)]PF6 (1b) with Br-2 (1 equiv.) affords the cycl
opentadienone complexes [Ru(eta(5)-C5H5)(eta(4)-C5H3-O-2-PPh3)Br]CF3SO3 (2a
) and [Ru(eta(5)-C5H4PPh3)(eta(4)-C5H4O)Br]PF6 (2b) in 79 and 82% yield. Wh
en 2a is treated with Ag+ in CH3CN, the dicationic complex [Ru(eta(5)-C5H5)
(eta(4)-C5H3O-2-PPh3)(CH3CN)](CF3SO3)(2) (3) is obtained, whereas with 2b t
he tris-acetonitrile complex [Ru(eta(5)-C5H4PPh3)(CH3CN)(3)](PF6)(2) (4) is
formed. X-Ray structures of 1a, 2a, and 2b are reported.
