Abstract
Today's efforts at the foundation of psychotherapy by psychology should con sider the work of the French philosopher, physician and psychologist Pierre Janet. The article sketches some aspects of Janet's biography, work and in fluence and refers to a few of his progressive ideas about an empirically b ased psychotherapy.
