We report on magnetotransport measurements (B parallel to c) in Bi 2212 sin
gle crystals for both overdoped and underdoped regions. Modification of car
rier concentration induces dramatic changes in the temperature dependence o
f the zero-field resistivity and longitudinal (B parallel to I) out-of-plan
e magnetoconductivity. A change of sign in the longitudinal out-of-plane ma
gnetoconductivity occurs in the underdoped to optimally doped region wherea
s no change of sign is observable in the overdoped region. A qualitative di
scussion is proposed on the basis of various scenarios such as the renormal
ization of the interlayer hopping rate or field induced suppression of the
pseudogap. Finally, we carry out a quantitative description in terms of sup
erconducting fluctuations conductivity to account for experimental data. [S
