We discuss the structural effects in the spin-orbit density part of the nuc
leus-nucleus potential, calculated within the framework of the Skyrme energ
y density formalism. The structural effects are analyzed by considering a t
wo-nucleon transfer process in both the alpha and non-alpha colliding nucle
i. We find that the spin-orbit density part of the nucleus-nucleus potentia
l shows a preference for the alpha-nuclei transfers in the alpha multiplier
(N = Z,A = 4n) colliding nuclei, which diminishes for the non-alpha multip
lier nuclei. Such alpha-transfer effects are found to be related to the clo
sure of the last j shell(s) of the product nucleus (nuclei), for both proto
ns and neutrons. The interesting result is that this effect is shown to exi
st both for the number of valence particles and the weighted number of vale
nce particles, called particle strength. [S0556-2813(99)01311-4].
