Photoproduction of eta(c) in nonrelativistic QCD is studied. We find that t
he color-singlet contributions to this process vanish at not only the leadi
ng order but also the next to leading order in perturbative QCD, and that t
he dominant contribution comes from the color-octet matrix element S-1(0)(8
) of eta(c), which is related to that of S-3(1)(8) of J/psi by the heavy qu
ark spin symmetry, and is well determined from direct J/psi production at l
arge transverse momentum at the Fermilab Tevatron. This process may clarify
the existing conflict between the color-octet prediction and experimental
results on J/psi photoproduction.
