Abstract
The triterpene filic-3-ene, 3-isopropyl-3a,5a,7a,8,11b,13a-hexamethyl-2,3,3 a,4,5,5a,5b,6,7,7a,10,11,11a,11b,12,13,13a,13b-octadecahydro-1H-cyclopenta[ alpha] chrysene, C30H50, was isolated from Davallia canariensis, a fern fro m Tenerife (Canary Islands), and its structure was elucidated. It was confi rmed to be a pentacyclic molecule, with four six-membered rings and one fiv e-membered ring. The two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit do no t differ significantly.
