During the therapy study 15 patients with birch pollen allergy and associat
ed apple allergy were treated with two courses of pre-seasonal birch pollen
immunotherapy. Changes in immunological parameters were investigated in an
attempt to explain the beneficial effects on apple allergy seen in 9 patie
nts (60%). We observed an improvement of pollen allergy in 13 patients (87%
). The results of immunoblot inhibition corroborated the importance from Be
t v 1 and homological protein Mal d 1 in the apple. There are the basis for
therapy effect to food allergy with birch pollen. The change of skin test
reaction, birch pollen as apple-specific IgE-levels and the not significant
ly change the specific antibody levels for Bet v 1 and Bet v 2 couldn't dem
onstrated the clinical effect.
