Abstract
We construct a set of equations of state for condensed matter at temperatur es well above the Debye temperature. These equations incorporate the Mie-Gr uneisen equation of state and generic properties of high temperature solids . They are simple enough to provide an alternative to the ideal gas and the van der Waals equations of state for illustrating thermodynamic concepts. (C) 1999 American Association of Physics Teachers.
