Tissue effects of subconjunctival injection of different doses of mitomycin-C: Conjunctival and scleral toxicity

This article reports on a study of the effect of subconjunctival injection of mitomycin-C on fibroblast viability, Pigmented rabbits were exposed to s ubconjunctival injection and tissue samples were taken I hour after the inj ection. The average scleral and conjunctival proliferations from the mitomy cin-C-treated tissues were found to he significantly less than the outgrowt h of the eyes treated with balanced saline solution. We conclude that mitom ycin-C has an important inhibitory effect on conjunctival and scleral fibro blast populations.
