Unlike non-charged macromolecules and silts, the general unsteady stat
e convection-diffusion equations associated with the osmotic theory do
not allow accurate prediction of the ultrafiltration of bovine serum
albumin (BSA) solutions in an unstirred cell. We postulate a modificat
ion of the physicochemical properties of the solution in the boundary
layer and attempt to simulate an experiment with a particular concentr
ation evolution of the osmotic pressure. Afterwards, the use of these
new data gives excellent results for all the other different experimen
ts undertaken at a given pH.
