E. Nowak et al., Rheological properties of red blood cells (including reticulocytes) in patients with chronic renal disease, CL HEMORH M, 21(2), 1999, pp. 87-94
Hemodialysis is a method of treatment of patients suffering from terminal r
enal disease and consists in removing uremic toxins from blood. The influen
ce of hemodialysis on rheological properties of red blood cells was ascerta
ined, we studied the deformability of RBC after density gradient separation
of whole blood drawn from patients with renal disease before and after dia
lysis. The improvement in deformability of cells from the top layers was ob
served in postdialysis samples.
